Phase 2 did have Guardians of the Galaxy and Winter Soldier (two of Marvel's best ever films), but every other film wasn't that great. Phase 2 leading to Age of Ultron which, honestly, didn't really blow me away. They planted the seeds, slowly, for the eventual joining of the Avengers four years after the original Iron Man came out. They didn't rush anything, though they very well could have. This plan started with Iron Man ten years ago. The thing is, they knew that building this into a monster would take time. But I have to give respect where it's due and say that Kevin Feige and his team have done a tremendous job at making Marvel Studios the juggernaut that it is today. To keep all of that lore, all of that mythology, all of those stories and characters in line to where it all makes, at the very least, a little bit of sense? I've certainly had my issues with Marvel movies in the past and, I'm sure, I'll continue to have them if they do something I don't enjoy. You realize how difficult that actually is.

2, I believe), and that's that not only do you have to make a movie that's enjoyable on its own merits, but you also have to make a movie that fits within the canon of the larger MCU and, at the same time, also hinting at future events that might not even play out in the same franchise that the hints happened in. Here's the thing, and I believe I've already mentioned this in one of my prior MCU reviews (only one on Letterboxd is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. I've always marveled (heh.I hate myself) at how Marvel Studios has managed to create, maintain and handle their absolutely fucking massive cinematic universe. Lastly, is there a better song to go with an action sequence than Led Zeppelin's "Immigration Song?" If so, I can't think of one. The majority of the action and dialogue scenes with Hulk proves the point that the Hulk is SO much better as a supporting character than. Without her guidance would he really have manned up and jumped out of a space ship double wielding machine guns?!?! I love the way she just makes Karl Urban her boy-toy. If Natalie Portman doesn't bring her A-game to Love and Thunder, (which she didn't to the first two) I'd like to start a petition that Tessa Thompson takes her place (without the horrible Valkyrie outfit).Ĭate Blanchett rips it as Maleficent (er, I mean Hela). Hemsworth is so comfortable in the role you can't imagine anyone else playing the character.Īnd damn if Tessa Thompson isn't the most bad-ass (anti-)heroine of the MCU - she's like the Han Solo for Marvel. is as irreplaceable as Tony Stark/Iron Man. After two middling Thor movies, Taika Waititi does James Gunn one better and makes Thor: Ragnorak the funniest and funnest MCU movie to-date.Ĭhris Hemsworth seamlessly embodies Thor just as Robert Downey Jr. Requires 3 AA batteries, included.Īll are available at most major retailers and on #17: The funnest Marvel movie of them all.
